Greetings, Ischia 2013!

My background is heavily weighted in history of the physical sciences, but my interests in the intersections of class, gender, religion and science, especially in Victorian Britain, have pulled me increasingly toward history of biology. My teaching at DePaul University has dealt with issues relating to our theme, one of my primary motivations for participating in this year's summer school.

For more on my teaching and research pursuits, see my DePaul faculty page at http://snl.depaul.edu/People/Faculty/dopitz.asp and other selected works at http://depaul.academia.edu/DonaldLOpitz

I look forward to spending time with you all!

Hi Ischia Participants!
I am working on models and metaphors with a focus on 20th century biochemistry. Moerover, I am interested in the emergence of geometrical concepts in mid and late 19th organic chemistry and their role in modeling and classification practices. Apart from that, I am generally interested in the interplay of social (i.e. institutional) and epistemic organization of research projects, the formation of research agendas, and science popularization.
I am very much looking forward to meeting you all and to find out more about your projects!
Rebecca

Hello eyerybody,
As trained biologist with emphasis in micro- and molecular biology, I am now working in interdisciplinary projects on the ethical, legal and societal impact of biotechnology, currently on Synthetic Biology (projects homepage: www.ea-aw.org/research/project-g ... ology.html ). In addition I conducted interviews with leading scientists in the field of Synthetic Biology, with questions on their concept of Synthetic Biology.

Now I am curious to find out more on the historical roots of many concepts used by practitioners in lab sciences and I am very much looking forward to discuss with you all in the beautiful Ischia!

Best, Margret
